Edifier M60 Compact desktop 2.0 speakers

Very very well designed desktop speakers. Powerful and very compact, only thing bad is no remote control. The phone app is good but they need some sort of remote for volume. But overall a solid 9 out of 10

Very nice sounding speakers, balanced sound. They look good, and don't take up too much room. The initial setup was trickier than I expected for some reason, but once they were working, no issues at all. The woodgrain look matches my desk pretty well too.

Great desktop speakers. Small but powerful, pro's. great sound & compact, doesn't take much room easy to setup, 3 inputs USB C Aux & Bluetooth Cons. no remote, if U want to switch EQ presets or tune the EQ U have to get the app & then it can only be done by Bluetooth connectivity to phone. So going from music to game U have to switch the speakers to Bluetooth, connect to your phone, open app switch preset then switch back to your input. It's a pain when you're speakers are not right in front of you

If you’re reading this you’re probably like me and looking to be convinced to buy the Edifier M60. I’ll do my best to help you. I’m reviewing to save others the hours I spent researching. Plus I want to get the word out there that the M60 is that good! TLDR; the Edifier M60 is exceptional and you should buy it! If you’re still undecided… First and foremost I appreciate my own review, opinion and experience are subjective. If you get the chance suggest you listen to the M60 in person and make an informed decision. I’ve used studio monitors professionally for music creation and sampling commercially both for others and myself. Would never consider myself an expert but I’ve paid my bills off the industry. Moved on from that path and have recently dipped back in for fun as nostalgia hits. Didn’t want to incur a massive financial investment this time around. Typically I’ve always used neutral leaning headphones however wanted decent speakers to experience with friends. Space is a priority. Didn’t want a sub, just speakers that accurately reproduce sound as it was intended by the creator. Found the Edifier brand - the Edifier MR3 actually brought me to look into the M60. Me being me I spent hours researching. I compared most of the Edifier lineup against each other and against other branded speakers. Price and performance Edifier as a brand reviewed favourably. It came down to the MR3, MR4 and M60. MR4 reviews as incredible bang for your buck Near field studio monitor speaker. Accurate sound reproduction with 4 inch drivers and 18 RMS. Older school as to connectivity. No eq app however physical eq knobs for adjustment. Larger than the MR3 and M60. No speakers stands or wedges. Not certified HiRes but from reading reviews they would be capable. MR3 reviews as a successor to the MR4. The modern take on the much loved MR4. Also near field studio monitor speakers. 22 RMS with slightly smaller 3.5 inch drivers. Accurate sound reproduction however ever so slightly less true than the MR4 however more power and greater connectivity. Bluetooth and certified HiRes. Also also has an eq app and physical eq knobs. Smaller than MR4 but larger than M60. No speakers stands or wedges. Then we have the M60. Reviews as near field studio monitors however also ‘multimedia’. Multimedia threw me considering I have typically a neutral sound preference. Otherwise the M60 was ticking boxes. 66 RMS, Bluetooth, usb c and aux with a eq app (but no physical eq knobs). Comes with aluminium wedges. Smallest in size of the three. Reviews generally as a step above in sound reproduction over the MR3 and MR4. Certified HiRes. As above the MR4 and MR3 are near field speakers with lower RMS. You will get the most out of them sitting close. I’ve used studio near fields and like them however I’d say it’s generally more personal listening experience. Great for a quiet room on your own however I wanted speakers that have the capacity to share the sound with friends. Also as the MR4 and MR3 are studio monitors you get the most out of them having them at the right angle and height. I wouldn’t want to run these without stands on wedges, if I purchased these I’d need to factor this cost in. Also having stands take up more desk real estate. As such I looked at the M60 primarily for RMS and size. The M60 comes in full retail packaging, no OEM box here. Good if you want to gift these. Speakers are individually cloth wrapped in heavy duty formed cardboard packaging to avoid damage in transit. As to QC the build quality is great. Mine came out looking clean and well made. There’s weight to them too. You get all the cables you need and the wedges look great. Instructions were easy to understand with a QR code to the app. Comes in three colours, I chose the black. Looks great and versatile to fit into most decors. Input and volume can be controlled by the app or through the right speaker via digital controls. Waking up the speaker is easy, just move your hand close and the display lights up. Input is colour coded - blue lighting for BT, red for USB C and green for aux. Volume and input is controlled by touch. Some online reviewers complained about the lack of physical knobs for adjustment. Once I used the M60 I didn’t see this as an issue. When I mostly want to change eq is when I’m listening to music. When I listen to speaker it’s typically via Bluetooth and I’m away from the speaker. If I’m away from the speaker I don’t want I go back to it to adjust eq. So not that much of an issue for me, the app is enough. As to sound reproduction they’re way above their price point. I’ve ran games and music via all three connections - USB C, Bluetooth and aux (no hiss on aux!). All connection options worked flawlessly. Yes reviews are correct, out of the box mids are slightly muddy. I believe this is a deliberate choice by Edifier engineers for a more acceptable sound profile for most people. However having the eq app allows you to clear up the mids under a custom eq profile. There are eq settings about if this isn’t your thing, just copy one and see if it’s to your liking. Plus the app allows you to choose from other predefined eq settings - including neutral. Just choose one you like and go for it. The predefined eq settings via the app have the typical leanings and bias as to their description. All these are fun and are a good representation of the M60s versatility. You can hear the change in the sound profile going through these. I enjoyed most of the sound profiles and for most people I’d say these will be more than enough. Saying this the app allows you to mess around with eq to find your own sound preference. While I was playing about with the music eq at peak volume my partner came in from the other side of the house. She’s a muso, sings and performs. She said they sounded good. I got her to sit down with the speakers at the desktop. She played some tracks she’s familiar with and literally turned to me and said ‘Wow. How much were these? How?! How are they picking that up?!’ Continuing the praises of the M60 music reproduction what really impressed me was how the M60 can ‘throw’ music vocals to their own space. Obviously the actual physical distance you have the left and right speaker apart will influence this. For me there was clear definition of vocals from L and R channels which allowed the vocals both male and female to occupy the mix, separate from the music and other inclusions and effects. You can physically place in real world vocals in their own space away from other sounds. I found myself turning my head back and forth to make the effect more pronounced, moving my head about al the while grinning from ear to ear on how well this happens. You have to experience this in person to fully appreciate how much work these little speakers are doing to achieve this. At this price point, just wow. In relation to gaming, the M60 impressed. Loaded up RDR2. I have many, many hours on. Great game to test as to soundscape with all the incidental inclusions. Insects, birds, weather, all these background sounds which can be muddled together on both external speakers and headphones. Not with the M60. Straight away with the load screen firing sound I knew I was in for a treat. The load, cock and fire was punchy, individual and so, so deliberate. Even the resonance after the fire sound, both so deep and refined at high volumes. In game there was clear individuality as to the soundscape. Out in the open space on my horse, no music playing I could place the sounds spatially in real world correctly from their in game origin. Put simply sounds were coming from where they were supposed to. And as with vocals on music tracks in game sounds had their own space. At higher volume in RDR2 gun fights, the crack from shot stood out so much to me. I’d not heard this as (again I’ll use this word) deliberate before. Gunfire had presence, impactful presence even amongst the confusing medley of a full on shoot out. I can’t emphasise enough how impressive this is. Put simply at this price point the M60 is an exceptional buy. It is batting well above its price. I’ve used studio monitors over the years (some of which are still highly regarded) which are significantly more money and are no way nearly as user friendly. The M60 in all honesty holds its own. Sometimes even beating them. And it’s doing this without an external amp or mixer! Edifier is onto a winner with the M60. You get the capability as to accuracy, individuality of sound of a studio monitor with the power you shouldn’t have at this price. It can fill a room with clean, crisp sound at peak volume. The MR4 and MR3 can’t match RMS and having that power there, even though you may think you don’t need it once you have it you’ll WANT it. For most people I truly believe the Edifier M60 is the right choice over the MR4 and the MR3. Edifier knew what I needed before I did. Smaller size, clean design. Powerful, accurate and deliberate sound. Fantastic price. You plug it in, connect and it exceeds. Do yourself a favour and end the debate, buy the M60. You won’t regret it.
